Coming from an advertising and design background Paul instinctually finds himself drawn to question what it is his work is communicating. These collages are an attempt to break from that cognitive process and allow expression to function independently of theory. A belief in Stewart Home’s argument that ‘all human creativity is accumulated’ gives licence to strip away the obstacle of conscious attempts at originality and as such these works are unrestrained in their source material being formed from found images, textures, papers, online resources and famous artworks combined with Paul’s own photographs, paintings and drawings.
